The business is a family owned one with deep roots in the baking industry. The principal member, Basil Grant, grew up in a bakery (Grants Bakery) his father, James owned in East London (Eastern Cape). When it was sold to Premier Food Industries in 1971 he, 18 at the time, practically went as part of the deal. Basil continued to work for Premier for 28 years and when he resigned in 1999 was Operations Director.

In 2006 he started Grants Baking Solutions, supplying general products & premixes as well as consulting & management expertise to the milling & baking industries. The company’s reputation and expertise has grown the business not only locally but in Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, Nigeria and Kenya.
